RECENSIONE di The Queen's Training di Noelle Riches/ REVIEW of The Queen's Training by Noelle Riches

Buona sera, bloggers e lettori!

Somehow knowing I fall behind at least one of the other ladies isn’t as devastating as I imagined. I’m not the best, but I’m also far from the worst. (Soriana)

"I do want to be Chosen One, I do want to become Queen. I want to make a difference, even if it means sacrifice something that's become dangerously precious to me, something that's not even mine. And if I can't have the man that I love, then the life I've chosen must be enough. It's the only one I have left."

Hi, sweeties! I’m back reviewing in English, and this time, I’ll review a book I could download from Booksprout. Yes, I love to read so many American and English books. I love them! I love the way Americans and English promote their writers, and I wish Italians could do it like them.

PREMISE
I was drawn to this book by its cover, I’ll admit it. The cover is as stunning as the story, and you’ll be delighted by this book. I must say, many reviewers, on Goodreads, complaint that there is too much sex for be a Young Adult Fantasy. But even in Goodreads it isn’t catalogued under that genre, so for me this is an Adult Fantasy Romance, and must be taken as this, because the book deals with many issues. I think it’s a mix between The Election by Kiera Cass and the books by George Martin.

SYNOPSIS (FROM GOODREADS)
Betrothed to the King of Oran, Soriana must undergo a year of training to learn all that’s expected of her before the wedding, but when the king’s second in command, an unreachable man marred by scars, takes over her training, she’s finally rocked by the passion necessary to fulfill her new role as queen. Unable to keep her heart from the man she cannot have, but with the possibility of finally being able to change the lives of her people, and her childhood rival doing all she can to usurp her position, Soriana must decide if she’s strong enough to give up the love she never hoped to find to become the woman her people so desperately need.

REVIEW
The book “The Queen's Training” narrates the year of training of the Chosen One, Soriana, before becoming Queen of Oran. But let’s take a step back: we are in a fantasy world, divided in eleven realms, guided by King Trenor. Every year, those little realms, give one of the youngest female child to the King, so that they will be instructed and educated in a special Manor that is located not so far from Sendarain, the city’s capital. The Ladies Eleven lead a dull life, a medieval kind of life I must say, training themselves to be the perfect queens a doing activities like sewing, painting, posing. Soriana, the girl of seventeen years old who comes from the most impoverished land of the Realm, lives her life as an underdog.

Somehow knowing I fall behind at least one of the other ladies isn’t as devastating as I imagined. I’m not the best, but I’m also far from the worst. (Soriana)

She doesn’t know why she was chosen as a child, and she won’t understand this during the book, but the reader will recognize the clues to them as the book develops. I won’t say anything about this in the review, because of the spoilers, so I invite you to read it. Soriana is chosen, by the Lady who educated them, and must go through a special event that must be applied only to the Chosen One: the opening. To put it bluntly, it’s a ceremony in which the Chosen One must lose her virginity. Because the year Soriana will pass, in order to marry the King, is based on the fact that she must learn how to please a man, and a man can also be pleased during sex. The first times she has sex are a failure, for her. Soriana knows that from her progress depends the lives of the poor people she left behind in her destitute Realm. Things change when the King’s second, Ranneth Kodrha, starts to train her. Naturally things become better, and they not only give pleasure to each other, but also learn that the things in the Reign aren’t going so well as the ivory tower life seemed. Soriana can’t help but falling in love with Ranneth, but their love won’t make it to the end. Why? You have to discover it. Let’s put in simple terms: things won’t go the way you expect, because you must remember that in this universe, if the Chosen One falls in love with another man and not with her king, her and her lover are charged with treason.

A steamy and hot story, written by Soriana’s point of view, that will leave with so many answers. What will happen to Soriana? What will happen to Ranneth? Will the King discover her love for another man? Her POV was very interesting, and yes, as someone said, she was whiny sometimes but you have to think like her character would think: if it were your life hanging on a thread, you won’t to the same as her? If it were you, you won’t feel distressed to leave your cocoon and being thrown to a world you basically don’t know?

This book is a 5-stars read for me, and I’m looking forward to read the other two books of the trilogy. I guess it isn’t clear as I hoped that I ship so hard Soriana and Ranneth xD

I advise this book strongly and salute you all, with one quote from it.
“Failure is not an option.
I only hope I can remember that when the time comes.”
(Soriana)
